ACL Reconstruction

ACL reconstruction is a keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery to rebuild a torn anterior cruciate ligament, one of the key ligaments that keeps the knee stable. It is often needed after sports injuries, twisting falls or road accidents.

Using a graft to replace the torn ligament, the procedure restores the knee’s stability and confidence for pivoting, jumping and daily movement. Dr. Udit Kapoor uses modern arthroscopic techniques with fellowship training in knee arthroscopy from Lyon, France, and ISKSAA (Mohali) for faster, more reliable recovery.

Who Needs It

An ACL tear commonly causes a feeling of the knee “giving way”, swelling and difficulty returning to sport. Reconstruction is advised for active individuals, athletes and anyone with recurrent instability.

  • Complete or partial ACL tears from sports or trauma
  • Recurrent knee instability or “giving way”
  • Athletes wanting to return to pivoting sports
  • Associated meniscus or cartilage injuries
  • Failed conservative (non-surgical) treatment

The Procedure

The surgery is performed arthroscopically through small incisions. The torn ligament is replaced with a graft, secured in the correct anatomical position to reproduce natural knee mechanics and stability.

Recovery & Rehabilitation

A structured, guided physiotherapy programme is central to a good outcome. Most patients progress from protected movement to strengthening over several weeks, with a gradual, supervised return to sport.
